William "Bill" Ankrum, 96, Webster City, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Rev. Keith Purscell officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour before services.

William Ankrum, son of James and Lucy Lester Ankrum, was born Sept. 10, 1902 on a farm near Jewell. He attended Locust Grove rural school and public schools in Blairsburg and Kamrar. He started farming with his father and also had a fuel deliver service and operated a service station. On June 22, 1927 he married Velma Elsie Seamands of Webster City. The couple resided at Fort Dodge where he worked at Fort Dodge Tent and Awning. In 1950 they moved to Hayward, CA., where he worked at Palmer Drug Company. They retired to Webster City in 1973. They resided in Baldwin, MD., from 1990 to 1995. Mrs. Ankrum died in November of 1995. He moved to Crestview Apartments in Webster City in 1996.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dean Ankrum of Fort Dodge, Doyle and Jean Ankrum of York, PA., Darrell and Sonja Ankrum of Baldwin, MD., seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Homer Ankrum of Mount Dora, FL., a sister, Mabel Whaley of Webster City, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alva and Dilman Ankrum.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Webster City, Noon Kiwanis, Webster City Senior Citizens Club and R.S.V.P.
