Jerald "Jerry" Oberender, 47, of Webster City, died Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City with Rev. John Flaherty and Rev. Bill Kem, police chaplain, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Webster City. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Foster Funeral Home and at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jerald Wayne Oberender, son of Lyle and Rosella (Meyeraan) Oberender, was born September 28, 1954 at Hampton. He graduated from Alden High School in 1972. He worked for Wilbur Schumaker for four years. In September of 1977 he started with the Webster City Police Department. In 1979, he graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Des Moines.

On September 20, 1986, he married Kim Elaine Wagner at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. Over the years with the department, he attended and became qualified in numerous education programs in police procedures. He was promoted to Captain in December of 1999 and served as Acting Police Chief.

Capt. Oberender is survived by his wife, Kim, two daughters, Kami and Keri, one son, Joby, his parents, Lyle and Rosella Oberender of Jewell, brothers and their spouses, Neil and Greta Oberender of Webster City, Jim and Gloria Oberender of Story City, Steve and Linda Oberender of Iowa Falls and Kevin and Sue Oberender of Kamrar; sisters and their spouses, Joyce and Keith Peters of Sheffield, and Janet and Rich Tribolet of Roland, and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Iowa Chiefs and Police Officers Association, and the Law Enforcement Intelligence Network.
