Everly Dean "Bud" Thompson, 73, Orient, died July 16, 2000 at the Greater Community Hospital of Creston. Funeral services will be held at the Orient United Methodist Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with burial in the Fairview Cemetery at Dows. Military rites will be conducted by the Dows American Legion Watson Beach Post 0530.
Everly Dean Thompson, son of Clarence Levi and Anna Marie Twedt Thompson, was born Nov. 23, 1926. He was raised in the Ellsworth and Dows area and attended various country schools for nine years and received his GED in June of 1981. He spent three years with the Air National Guard in Fort Dodge. Of that time, 20 months was spent in active duty in Louisiana and South Carolina. He married Ruby Marie Charleston at the First Lutheran Church in Dows on August 26, 1956. They lived on different farms in the Dows area until moving to Orient in March of 1979. He farmed one year after moving to Orient, worked for Jerry Swan for a few months and also did some carpentry work. In May of 1981 he started working for Rolling Hills FS and worked there until retirement in November 1991. He continued to work part time for FS both in the spring and fall. He was a member of the Orient United Methodist Church and the Dows American Legion, Watson Beach Post No. 0523.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, DeeAnn and Robert Groom of Oskaloosa, Barbara and Brian Wambol of Greenfield, son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kathy Thompson of Plano, Texas; 11 grandchildren, two sisters VaDonna Swanson of Ames and Doreen Hauge of Wheatland, Wyom.
Steen Funeral Homes were in charge of arrangements.
