Oris "Orrie" Winkler, 74, Webster City, died July 13, 2000 at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. A graveside service will be held at Graceland Cemetery on Monday at 2 p.m. The Cremation Society of Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Oris "Orrie" Winkler was born [March 28, 1926] in Schaller. During World War II he served in the Navy on board the USS Johnston Destroyer which was sunk during the battle of Leyte. He was wounded and rescued 72 hours later. Following the war, he lived in Webster City and later in Fairfield, Mont., returning to Webster City in June of this year. He was self-employed, working as an over-the-road trucker, retiring in 1991.

Survivors are his wife, Vera LaVaun Winkler, sons John Winkler and Joseph Winkler, all of Webster City, Dewey Alan Winkler, Fort Dodge; two daughters-in-law, one brother, one sister, four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
