Helen Sandal, 71, Iowa Falls, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church with burial in the Union Cemetery, both in Iowa Falls. Visitation will be Sunday, 4-8 p.m. at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. The family will be present during that time.

Helen Elaine Grandgeorge, daughter of Fred and Hattie Schmidt Grandgeorge, was born Dec. 2, 1928 in Webster City. She was raised on her parents' farm near Williams and she attended Rose Grove rural elementary schools. She graduated from Williams High School in 1946. She attended Ellsworth College and taught rural school in the Williams area before her marriage. She married Charles Sandal on Nov. 23, 1952 at the Williams Methodist Church. The couple lived at Williams, moving to Iowa Falls in 1964. Following her husband's retirement, the couple moved to White City, Ore. for eight years and moved back to Iowa Falls a few years ago.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church Eastside Ladies Aid and a past member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors are her husband, Charles, daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and David Goodknight, Lake Oswego, Ore.; Janet and Michael Warford, Lakeside, Calif., one grandson, Matthew Goodknight, Lake Oswego, Ore., brother-in-law, Everett Sandal, Illinois, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Pierce of California and Helen Reed, Rochester, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
