Arlene Marian Skartvedt, 82, Ellsworth, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with Rev. Michael Herschberger to officiate. Burial will follow at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. A memorial fund has been established for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames and Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

Marian Malmin was born near McCallsburg Jan. 14, 1918 to Gerhard and Oline Almlie Malmin. She was a 1937 graduate of McCallsburg Consolidated School and a 1943 graduate of the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. On March 25, 1944 she married Raymond S. Skartvedt. They resided in Ellsworth since 1945. She taught art education at several school districts, including Indianola, Kamrar and from 1959 to 1982, Radcliffe Community School. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. She was also active with the Story City Sons of Norway Kong Sverre Lodge, Trinity Women, Beta Theta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma and Advance Club.

Survivors are her brother Marvin Malmin, Des Moines, four nephews Larry Malmin, Des Moines, Mike Sorenson, Ashville, NC., Mark Sorensen, Raleigh, NC and John Sorensen, West Des Moines; one niece, Susan Haupts of West Des Moines, seven grandnieces and two grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one sister, Carmelia Olger.
