Carmelita Nichols, 90, Webster City, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at the Hamilton Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. John Walsh, celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, followed by a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.

Carmelita M. Nichols, daughter of Lester and Josephine Burke Karker, was born May 3, 1910 at Chicago, Ill. She attended Lombard College at Galesburg, Ill. On Dec. 30, 1931 she married Lewis O. Nichols at Galesburg, Ill. The couple resided in Webster City, where her husband owned and operated Handi-Klasp Corporation. Prior to Mr. Nichols death in May of 1985, they had wintered in Belle Vista, Ark. Mrs. Nichols was a homemaker. She moved to Crestview Apartments in 1993 and to Crestview Manor last April.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Laura Nichols, Webster City, daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Ray Smigla, Raleigh-Durham, NC., Carmen and Jack Carr, Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy and her parents.

She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and Delta Zeta Sorority.
