Walter W. Christenson, 70, a longtime resident of the Stanhope community died Friday at the Hamilton County hospital. He had been in ill health the past two months.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at the Grace United Methodist church in Stanhope with the Rev. Robert Winter and the Rev. George Brighton officiating. Burial was made in Graceland cemetery.

Walter William Christenson, son of John W. and Ida Olson Christenson, was born Feb. 2, 1900, near Kamrar. He received his elementary education in the rural schools and was graduated from Webster City high school. [he is pictured in the 'Sands of Time' book for graduates of Kamrar High School, Class of 1916]

He was united in marriage Aug. 29, 1923 to Wilma East, and the couple made their home on a farm near Stanhope, moving into Stanhope three years ago.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters and one son: Mrs. David (Kay) Lane, Stanhope; Mrs. John (JoAnn) Caspar, San Ramon, Calif., and Walter J. Christenson, New York City. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Lisa and Misty Lane, and Jeffrey and Nick Caspar; three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Marion (Esther) Beardsley, Kingsley, Iowa, Mrs. Wilfred (Ella) Wolfe, Hampton, Mrs. Harold (Clara) Elliott, Oscar Christenson, Roy Christenson and Arthur Christenson, all of Webster City.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ross, who died at the age of 18; his parents; three sisters and one brother.

Mr. Christenson was a member of the Grace United Methodist church in Stanhope; the Stanhope Lions club, the Masonic Lodge and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He had served as chairman of the board of education in Hamilton county.
