Joseph Hanson, 84, a former Ellsworth resident, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell with Rev. Dale R. Peterson to officiate. Burial will follow at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. Friends may call Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Joseph Hanson was born Sept. 5, 1915 in Cylinder, IA., to Olaf and Anna Challe Hanson. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 22, 1951, he married Wilma Evelyn Ziebell in Las Vegas, NV. He resided in Ellsworth for 46 years, working for Palmer Erickson, the Ellsworth Co-op, and was the foreman of the loading crew at the Land O'Lakes Turkey Plant.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Bill Reed of Springville, IA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Johnna Hanson of Randall, Gene and Jeri Hanson of Jewell and Olene and Kim Hanson, Ellsworth, 10 grandchildren, Jason, Aaron and Alycia Reed, Leah Cardenas, Holly, Joey, Joshua, Garrett, Sara and Samuel Hanson; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lydia McDonald, Brea, CA., Jeanette Copple, Fergus Falls, MN., and Berdine Jarvis of Bellflower, CA.; two brothers Jay Hanson of Norwalk and Olene Hanson of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma in 1970, a brother Lester and three sisters, Esther, Caroline and Elnora.
