Berdena "Birdie" Hanen, 86, Webster City, died Feb. 22, 2000 at Southfield Care Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev. Stephen M. Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Sully Cemetery in Sully. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Alberdena Deana Kuiper, daughter of Jacob and Cornelia Baarda Kuiper, was born March 10, 1913 on a farm southeast of Sully. She graduated from Sully High School. She married Arie Edward Bezemer in 1934. The couple farmed near Marshalltown. To this union, two sons were born. Mr. Bezemer died in 1944. She attended cosmetology school in 1946 and owned and operated a salon in Sully. In March of 1954, she married Max Hanen at Oskaloosa. The couple resided in Sully. They moved to Webster City in the late 1950s. She operated the Dol-ley Beauty Shop for many years. She also had a chair in the Fox Barber Shop and Salon for several years. She retired in the late 1980s. She moved to Expo Care Center in 1997 and to Southfield Care Center in December of 1998.

Survivors are her husband, Max, of Webster City, a son, Carroll (Cal) Bezemer, Los Angeles, CA., grandchildren, Kris Branen of Burlington, WI., T. Mark and John Kraner, both of Minneapolis, sister Elizabeth Terpstra, Ackley and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son, Carroll Jay Bezemer in 1935, brothers, John and Peter Kuiper and sister, Henrietta Swank.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and the ladies of the Moose and was listed in Who's Who of America.
