Grace Sherman, 91, Webster City, longtime care center owner, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 at Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor John Grebner officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Foster Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Grace Alma Hartwig, daughter of Charles and Frederika Lembke Hartwig, was born July 27, 1906 at Richards, IA. She attended the Immanuel Lutheran School at rural Rockwell City. On Feb. 19, 1925 she married Joseph George Sherman at Richards. The couple farmed in the Strawberry point, Manson and Rockwell City areas. They moved to Fort Dodge in 1942 where she was employed by Sperry's Furrier for several years. In 1951, they opened the Sherman Nursing Home in Fort Dodge. They also operated a nursing home in Marshalltown from 1958 to 1962. In 1963, they moved to Webster City. In January of 1964, they opened Crestview Manor Health Care Center. Joe Sherman joined the business in 1964. Mr. Sherman died on Sept. 20, 1968. In 1971, Mrs. Sherman and her son Joe built the Crestview Retirement Apartments. In 1991, she moved into the Crestview Apartments and most recently, had moved to the care center.

Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Myetha and Vincent Bobenhouse, Des Moines, Mavis and Gail Van Alstine, Fort Dodge, son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Charlotte Sherman, Webster City; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, sister, Marie Calmer, Manson and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, William, Robert, George, Fred, Carl and Frank Hartwig, and sisters Amelia George, Elizabeth Luebke, Edith Ballstadt, Edna Hartwig and Ella Henrich.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of the Iowa Health Care Association.
