Bernard Schnell, 74, Webster City, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999 at his home. His body was cremated and private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made with Foster Funeral Home.

Bernard Lowell Schnell, son of Truman and Evelyn Purkapile Schnell, was born on May 3, 1925 at Webster City. He attended Webster City Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He served in the Pacific Theater of Action. On Feb. 24, 1951 he married Vinie G. Bond at Delaware, IA. He had worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, Wilhelm Foundry and for 38 years, was employed with Frigidaire. He retired in May of 1990 due to failing health.

Survivors are his wife Vinie, son and daughter-in-law, Rory "Pete" and Deb Schnell, Webster City, grandchildren, Chad and Troy Schnell, brothers Melvin Schnell of Eagle Grove, Robert Schnell of Webster City, Franklin Schnell of Williams, sisters Ruth Norris, June Larson and Marcia Dayton, all of Webster City, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Merlyn and Lawrence Schnell, and a sister, Verla Jean Schnell in infancy.

He was a member of American Legion Post #191 and the United Auto Workers Local #442.
