Gail Groves, 91, Jewell, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell with Rev. Gerald Sawyer to officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday. A memorial fund has been established. Gifts may be sent to Gladys Hanson, PO Box 271, Jewell, IA 50130.

Gail Hubert Groves, son of Roy and Clara Haiaring Groves, was born August 19, 1908 on a farm west of Jewell. He graduated in 1926 from Stanhope High School. On March 15, 1929 he married Joyce Nelson in Stratford. They lived in Stanhope for one year, then moved to the family farm four miles west of Jewell. They farmed there until retiring in 1973 when they moved to Jewell. She died later that year. On Dec. 17, 1974 he married Eleanor Nelson. He was a member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell and was instrumental in the building of the new church and educational wing at the present church location.

Survivors are his wife, Eleanor of the Grand Avenue Care Center, Ames, a step-son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Betty Drewes, Raleigh, NC., two step-grandchildren, a step-great-grandchild, a sister Gladys Hanson of Jewell and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
