Ralph Burckle, 83, a long time Webster City resident, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 at Hamilton Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 Thursday at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Morgan and Cindi O'Brien, pastoral assistant, officiating. Private burial in Graceland Cemetery will be held prior to the memorial service. Visitation will be at the Asbury United Methodist Church from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.

Ralph Waldo Burckle, son of Walter and Louvie Wickwire Burckle, was born Sept. 23, 1916 at Webster City. He received his education at Webster City schools. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. On April 16, 1939 he married Inez Pringle at Webster City. The couple always resided in Webster City. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army-Transportation (motor pool) and had served in the Pacific Theater of Action. Following his discharge, he attended watch making and jeweler school at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. He worked with Carl Hayne for several years and in 1968, he bought Hayne's Jewelry. In 1978, he sold Burckle Jewelry to Ron and Connie Gilbert. He then worked part-time for Gilbert Jewelers in watch repair.

Survivors are his wife Inez, daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Don Roberts of Des Moines, Diane and Bill Crystal of Stratford, Carole and Denny Burgin of Centerville, grandchildren, Tony and William Crystal, Craig Roberts, Cris Larson, Michelle Cubbage and Jason Burgin; 10 great-grandchildren, brother Alfred Burckle of Webster City, sisters Caroline Walton of Mount Vernon, Betty Simpson of Phoenix, AZ., several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Burckle.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #191, a former Elks Club member, a 50 year member of the Webster City Country Club where he was a former board member and had achieved a Hole In One at the club four times.
