Klaus Jans, 90, Ames, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be Tuesday at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert with Rev. Tom Prochnow officiating. Burial will be in the South St. Petri Cemetery in rural Gilbert.

Klaus Jans was born Oct. 3, 1909 in Boen, Germany, the son of Garson and Lumkea Mohenhamp Jans. He came from Germany to Kamrar in 1928. He farmed in Hamilton County until 1945. He then became a dairy herdsman for the O'Neil Dairy in Ames. He lived in the Gilbert area since 1953. He married Naomi Jacobson on Feb. 10, 1953 and the couple lived on the Jacobson Century Farm. They moved into an apartment in Ames in August of 1998. He was a member of Gilbert Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday school teacher for nearly 20 years and a member of the church council. He served on the Gilbert-Story City Farmers Co-op Board.

Survivors are his wife, Naomi, Ames, a brother, Heiko Jans in Germany, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Memorials may be sent to Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert or Homeward Hospice of Ames.
