Merrill E. Pierce, 81, Webster City, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Revs. John Grebner and Doug Bullock-Tiffany officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. Monday and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Merrill Everett Pierce, son of Bert and Ethyle Gilmore Pierce, was born Jan. 11, 1918 at Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High School at Webster City in 1936. He also attended Iowa State University. He started farming with his father. In April of 1940, he married Evelyn Sandahl at Stanhope. The couple farmed south of Webster City. To this union, a son, Charlie and daughter Karen were born. On Jan. 22, 1968, he married Arline Ruth Read at Albert Lea, MN. The couple farmed south of Webster City, then moved to Webster City in 1981. Arline Pierce died Oct. 11, 1987. On July 1, 1989, he married Ann Erdman Hanson at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City.

Survivors are his wife, Ann, son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Ramona Pierce of St. Ansgar, daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gary Walcher of San Diego, CA., step-sons, Gary Hanson of Stanhope, Marty Hanson of Webster City, Mark Hanson of Ankeny, step-daughter Connie Pfaffenbach of Vincent, grandchildren, Cynthia Hoeg, Deanne Pierce, Tom Pierce, Jeff Walcher and Shonnon Shilling, great-grandchildren; Joshua and Brandon Hoeg, Jacob and Clay Pierce, several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, twin brother Burrill Pierce of Reseda, CA, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Faye Steed and Rebecca Pierce.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former Iowa State 4-H band member.

The family requests memorials be given to the Cancer Fund.
