Esther Jones, 94, Webster City, died Saturday, Sept. 4 at her home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday.

Esther Irene Johnson, daughter of Peter and Sallie Monroe Johnson, was born June 25, 1905 at Jewell. She graduated from Jewell High School in 1923 and from Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls. She received a degree in education in 1953 and a master's degree in education in 1960 from Drake University. She taught in rural schools in Hamilton County.

On March 27, 1927 she married Virgil B. Jones at Boone. The couple farmed near Jewell. She continued to teach in rural schools. In 1929, they purchased a farm near Dayton. She taught in rural Webster County schools, Burnside Elementary and Fort Dodge Junior High. She retired in 1971. After retirement, she taught for two years at the Iowa Central Community College. They moved to Webster City in 1978. Mr. Jones died April 4, 1993. She continued to reside in Webster City.

Survivors are her sister, Naomi Klaver, Webster City, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary Olsen Bentley, Myrtle Flygstad, Edna Thompson, Pearl Valde, Leigh Johnson, Lois Voss and Iola Carr; one brother, Maurice Johnson.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Fort Dodge and the Mother Church in Boston, MA., Daughters of the American Revolution, Webster County Retired Teachers, Webster County Farmers Union and Sons of Norway.
