Funeral services for the Rev. Calvin E. Leeds, 49, Scottsbluff, NE, who died Thursday, August 19, 1999 at his home, were held on Saturday, August 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Revs. William M. Williams Jr., and Wayne Alloway officiating. Burial will be in the Stratford Cemetery in Stratford. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church of Scottsbluff, Prairie Haven Hospice Service or the Nebraska United Methodist Ministerial Scholarship Fund.

Calvin Eugene Leeds, son of LaVerne and Pauline McCoy Leeds, was born August 21, 1949 at Cherokee. He graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School at Blairsburg in 1967, Webster City Community College in 1969 and Westmar College in 1971. From 1971 to 1974, he served the First United Methodist Church in Dixon, IL., and attended Evangelical Theological Seminary. He married Nora Ann Boykin on June 25, 1972 in Kearney, NE. From 1974-76 he served Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City while working at the Leeds Family grocery store in Stratford. From 1976-77 he served the United Methodist Church in Paxton, NE while attending Illiff School of Theology, where he received his Masters of Divinity Degree. He served McCook First United Methodist from 1977-78, Morrill United Methodist Church, 1978-82, Morrill-Henry-Lyman Way West Parish, 1982-86, Geneva First United Methodist Church, 1986-1990, and Scottsbluff United Methodist Church from 1990 until ill health caused his retirement in 1999. He was past president of the Rotary Club of Morrill, NE., former member of the Rotary Club of Geneva, and a member of the Rotary Club of Scottsbluff-Gering. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as chairman of the Prairie Haven Hospice and was a member of the Regional Ministerium 1987-89. He served on numerous boards, agencies and committees of the Nebraska Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Nora, daughters Sonya Ann Leeds and Amy Nicole Leeds, both of Lincoln, NE., his mother, Pauline Leeds of Stratford; four sisters, Penny Woodard of Webster City, Kaylen Leeds of Romania, Karla Caquelin, Webster City, and Kelly Wilson of Council Bluffs, five brothers, Kenneth of Denver, CO., Kevin of Webster City, Keith of Stratford, Kirk of Boone and Kyle of Stratford; special daughter, Venedith Vargas Winkel, Leon, Mexico, special granddaughter, Andrea Vargas Winkle, Leon, Mexico; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father.
