Clare Forrester, 96, a longtime businessman and farmer, died Thursday, August 19, 1999 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at the Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Masonic services were conducted by the Acacia Lodge #176 AF and AM Sunday at the funeral home.

Clare Leslie Forrester, son of Harry and Abiah Spitler Forrester, was born Dec. 15, 1902 at Fredricksburg, IA. He graduated from Gladbrook High School. The family moved to Webster City in 1922. In 1927, he graduated from Iowa State University. He returned to Webster City in 1922 with the Forrester Creamery. On June 4, 1928 he married Alma Marie Tolstrup at Nashua. The couple resided in Webster City, where he continued with Forrester Creamery. In the mid-50's, he started farming near Webster City, retiring in 1972. He moved to Crestview Manor in April of 1998. Mrs. Forrester died on May 6, 1998.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Gretcher Forrester of Murphys, CA, daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Gene Schnabel of Englewood, CA, grandchildren, Kevin, Keith and Karl Forrester, Matthew and Annie Schnabel, great-grandchildren, Courtney, Cody and Jason Forrester; sisters, Helen Mertz, Webster City and Blanche Doty of St. Helena, CA., several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Forrester, brothers, Howard, Harry Jr. and Paul and Robert Forrester.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, a 75 year member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, a past master of Acacia Lodge #176 AF and AM, a 32nd Degree Mason, past Worthy Patron of Sharon Chapter - Order of Eastern Star, member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines, Hope Chapter #88, Triune Commandery and was a 73 year member of the Masons.
