Rev. Msgr. Arthur A. Halbach, 97, Dubuque, died Thursday, July 15, 1999. The Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, July 10 at St. Raphael Cathedral with Archbishop Jerome Hanus O.S.B. officiating. Burial was in the Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.

Arthur A. Halbach, son of Peter and Mary Brumm Halbach, was born Sept. 8, 1901 in Stacyville, IA. He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque and received his theological training at the Sulpician Seminary at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He was ordained May 21, 1932 by Archbishop Francis J. Beckman. His first assignment was an associate pastor at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, 1932-38. He taught at the former Columbia Academy from 1938-41. In 1941, he began graduate studies at Fordham University in New York and the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Upon completion of his doctorate he taught at Loras College in Dubuque from 1946-1950. He served as head of the archdiocesan school from 1950-1953. He returned to Loras College for one year and then served as pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Webster City from 1954-1966. He served at St. John's Parish in Delhi from 1966 until his retirement in 1976. In 1965 he was named dean of the Eagle Grove Deanery. He was named a Monsignor in 1952.

Survivors are a brother and sister-in-law, John and Rose Halbach, Cedar Falls, and a sister, Agnes Buch, Elgin, IL.

Arrangements were handled by the Hoffman-Schneider Funeral Home in Dubuque.
