Sam Ness, 94, Duncombe, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. David Deckard officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday until service time.

Sam Clifford Ness, son of Thomas and Minnie Mickelson Ness, was born February 27, 1905 on a farm near Duncombe. He attended a rural school and also Duncombe public school. On January 22, 1924 he married Loretta Goehring at Fort Dodge. The couple farmed near Duncombe, then moved to Duncombe in 1935. He operated Ness Produce and Implement with his father. In 1956, he retired from the produce business and started working with Webster County Rural Road Maintenance, retiring in 1980. The couple continued to reside in Duncombe.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta, daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Robert Hansch of Duncombe, son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Joyce Ness of Hurst, TX., grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Ruth Simpson, Bernice Holm and Clarine Rossow. He was a member of the Washington Lutheran Church at Duncombe.
