Harlan Wentworth Thompson, 85, Phoenix, AZ., died Saturday in Arizona. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Federated Church of Christ in Jewell with Rev. Jerry Sawyer officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Harlan W. Thompson, son of Jesse Severin and Katie Christina Johnson Thompson, was born June 12, 1914 in McCallsburg. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1932 and served in the U.S. Army. He married Betty Mae Annas in Des Moines on April 21, 1945. They moved to Jewell where he owned and operated the Skelgas Store on Main Street. He then worked for the Ellsworth-Williams Co-op in Ellsworth as the gas manager and bookkeeper, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the American Legion, Am Vets and Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell. After retiring, he lived in Idaho and Arizona and was active in the Magic Valley Seniors Group, the Twin Falls Mall Walkers and the Magic Valley Classic Car Club.

Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Jack Beck of Phoenix, AZ., Trudee and Ted Pederson of Jewell; sons and daughters-in-law, Vince and Susan Thompson, Twin Falls, Idaho, and Dave and Margaret Thompson of Slater; grandchildren, Jodi Duncan, Kyle Beck, Stacie Beck, Tobee Pederson, Tabitha Pederson, Tate Pederson, Tony Pederson, Justin Thompson, MacKenzie Thompson; two great-grandsons; a sister, Virginia Koehler of Mitchell, S.D., and two brothers, James Thompson, Garden City and Wright Thompson, Lakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1983, two grandchildren, Devin Scott and Brenda Sue Thompson, three brothers, Everett, Lester and Audrey Thompson and a sister Gert Thompson.
