Robert Clifford Friederich, 63, died Friday, July 2, 1999 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake with Rev. Albert O. Grendler presiding. Burial was in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm, Minnesota. Military rites were by New Ulm Veteran's Organization.

Robert Clifford Friederich was born on May 3, 1936 at New Ulm, Minnesota, the son of William and Mary Callanan Friederich. He attended and graduated from high school in New Ulm. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army until his Honorable Discharge in 1956. He married Marjorie Schumacher on August 11, 1955. He worked in the retail and food management business all his life. He owned the Ben Franklin Store and managed the Woolworth's Store in Webster City. He was also a past manager of the Woolworth's Store in Lafayette, Indiana. Most recently he owned and operated the Subway stores in Spirit Lake, Milford and the Anchor Inn in Arnolds Park. He has lived in the lakes area since 1988. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake.

Survivors are his children; Susanne Randolf of Brookston, IN, Julie Poppe of Lafayette, IN, Steven Friederich of Iowa Falls, Nancy Hilpipre of Webster City; Barbara Norem of Ocheyedan IA, and Beth Whelan of Vine Grove, KY; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Rosalie DeVoll of Cedar Falls, IA and Kathleen Hempel of New Ulm, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Jack, Bernard, Danny Dean and Willard Jr.
