Melva Jean Sommerfeldt, 56, Janesville, WI., died Friday, May 28, 1999 at her home. Funeral services were today at the Schnieder Funeral Home in Janesville.

Melva Jean Powell, daughter of Earl and Jane Lee Powell, was born August 30, 1942 at Webster City. She attended Webster City schools. She married Melvin Lawrence and to this union were born two children. The couple resided in Webster City. They were later divorced. In 1964, she moved to Wisconsin. On April 29, 1978 she married Kenneth Sommerfeldt at Janesville. She had been employed at Ajay in Delvan, WI., for 30 years.

Survivors are her husband, Kenneth, son Melvin (Joe) Lawrence Jr., and fiancée, Denise Fuchs, Janesville; daughter Sheila Lawrence and fiancé Ken Tollas of Elkhorn, WI; mother, Jane Croxell, Webster City, brothers Marvin and Stephen Powell, both of Walworth, WI., sisters, Jane Newgaard of Kanawha, Kathy Baker, Webster City, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl, brothers, Howard and William Powell, a sister, Ann Carlson, step-father, Lee Croxell, two nieces and nephews and a great-nephew.

She was an avid Elvis Presley memorabilia collector.
