Harley E. Simpson, 87, of Dows, a former Webster City resident died Saturday, April 3, 1999 at the Dows Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday.

Harley Edward Simpson, son of George and Rose Dingman Simpson, was born February 20, 1912 at Webster City. He received his education at Williams. On November 16, 1934 he married Alice Caroline Larson at Eldora. The couple farmed in the Radcliffe, Williams and Blairsburg areas. They moved to Webster City in 1947. In 1962, he retired from Franklin Manufacturing (Frigidaire). Alice Simpson died November 30, 1966. On June 16, 1989 he married LaDonna Oswood Pippin at Dows. The couple resided in Dows. LaDonna Simpson died in October of 1997. He had resided at the care center for the past three years.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Rocs Whittle of Dows, step-children, Ronald Pippin of Webster City, Jim Pippin of Spanaway, Wa., Gary Pippin of Missoula, Mont., Douglas Pippin of Lawrenceburg, Tn., grandchildren; Roger Caquelin, Kathy Dixon, Pam Moore, Bill Caquelin, Robert Caquelin, 16 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, half brother; Hio Simpson of Webster City, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, grandsons, Clair and Jerry Caquelin, step-mother, Mary Walteman Richardson, half sister; Irene Seiser, brother; Alfred Simpson, half brothers; George, Floyd, Marion and Robert Simpson.

He was a member of the Dows United Methodist Church and U.A.W. local #442 of Webster City.
