Gregory Dean Block, the son of Russell and Donna (Rule) Block, was born on July 6th, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa. Greg spent his childhood in Webster City where he graduated from Webster City High School.

He worked for his dad at Block Oil Company, went to college at Ellsworth Community College and went to the United States Air Force in 1976. While in the Air Force, Greg was united in marriage with Frances Stanaitis in 1979 and they had two children, Justin and Deanna, before their divorce in 1988.

Greg met Cyndi (Spangler) Hennigar in February of 1988 and spent the last 31 years together before his death. Greg and Cyndi married on February 6th, 2019 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, as Greg's last wishes.

Greg spent his last 28 years living outside of Livermore with Cyndi on their farm where he spent a lot of time with his animals that he cherished.

He was a long time Abate of Iowa District 10 member and served 22 years on the Livermore Fire Department.

He worked for Martin Farms for several years prior to his battle with cancer.

Greg was an avid motorcycle rider and couldn’t wait for The Abate Freedom Rally every summer. His favorite football team was the Chicago Bears.

He had a great love for his children and grandchildren and always looked forward to them coming to the farm to visit with him and play with all the animals.

Greg passed away on February 8th, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa, after a battle with cancer, at the age of 61 years. He is was preceded in death by his parents

Greg is survived by his wife Cynthia Block of Livermore; children, Justin (Abigail) Block of Ames and Deanna Block of Fort Dodge; step-children: Shyane (Amy) Hennigar of Clarion, Mike (Kellie) Hennigar of Eagle Grove and Dan (Danielle) Hennigar of Clarion; four grandchildren: Samantha, Emily, Quinn and Justice; ten step-grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Lori) Block of Cedar Falls and Jeff (Sue) Block of Grayslake, IL; four nephews; one niece and numerous other family and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019, 12:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
