ERNEST WESTRUM

STRATFORD - Ernest Wesley Westrum, 74, longtime Stratford resident, died Wednesday evening at the Boone county hospital where he had been a patient for about three weeks.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at the Stratford Lutheran church with burial in the South Marion cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hanson-Stark-Welin funeral home in Stratford, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; three sons, Norman Westrum, Tempe, Ariz., Verlyn Westrum and Dale Westrum, both of Stratford; two daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Betty Jean) Albrecht of Davenport, Mrs. Ben (Janice) Young of Ottumwa, 23 grandchildren, two brothers, Sydney Westrum of Stratford and Marvin Westrum of Longmount, Colo., and many nieces and nephews.

He was born June 19, 1899, in Stratford, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels [Caroline A Bocklund] Westrum. On Jan. 1, 1924, he married Hazel Angstrom at Des Moines. He had farmed all his life in the Stratford community, retiring 16 years ago and moving into Stratford.

He was preceded in death by one daughter; Marjorie Kallansrud; one brother, Elmo Westrum; and one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Sadie) Angstrom.

He was a member of the Stratford Lutheran church and the Izaak Walton League.
