Elsie M. Westrum, 92, formerly of Stratford, died Friday at Green Hill Health Care Center in Ames of heart failure. She has been a resident of the center since April of 2000. She was born May 22, 1908, in Marion Township, Hamilton County, the daughter of Allen and Alice (Jones) Johnson. She married Elmo A. Westrum Sept. 11, 1940, in Stratford.

She was a 1927 graduate of Stratford High School and she lived in Stratford all her life. She was a member of the Stratford Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by her husband in July of 1973; one sister, Violet Anderson; two brothers, Vernon Johnson and Clyde Johnson; and one nephew. Survivors include two nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with the Rev. David Cramer officiating. Burial was in South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors of Boone was in charge of arrangements.
