STRATFORD - Two area men were killed and five persons were injured in separate traffic accidents Friday.

A grinding head-on collision shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday two miles east of Dayton on Highway 175 claimed the lives of Stratford businessman Dick Westrum, 40, and a Dayton man, Charles A. Porter, 21. Three passengers in the Porter vehicle were injured.

Westrum, the owner of a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Stratford, was alone in his car.

Iowa Highway Patrolmen and Webster County Sheriff's Department deputies at the scene said Westrum's eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck the westbound Porter vehicle.

Following the impact, Westrum's car remained on the road. Porter's vehicle continued its course another 250 feet before it slid down an embankment and rolled on its side approximately 65 feet from the highway.

Westrum and Porter were dead at the scene. Their bodies were pinned in the crushed vehicles.
