A.J. Swedlund Dies at 87

A.J. Swedlund, 87, longtime Stratford resident, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at his home four and one-half miles southeast of Stratford. He had been in ill health the past year.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at South Marion Methodist church preceded by a brief service at 1:30 at the family home southeast of Stratford. The Rev. A.M. Gunn of Stratford and the Rev. A.G. Heddle of Iowa Falls will officiate with burial in South Marion cemetery, Foster's funeral home in charge.

Albert Joe Swedlund, son of Peter and Mary [Anderson] Swedlund, was born Nov. 30, 1867, on a farm six miles southeast of Stratford. He was educated in the Stratford schools and had lived his entire life in the Stratford community.

He was united in marriage March 8, 1894 to Mary Ann Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Swedlund farmed in the Stratford community and had lived on the present farm since 1903.

He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters: Floyd of Stratford; Elsie Swedlund and Pearl Swedlund, both at home; three grandchildren, Robert of Stratford, Pvt. Dale Swedlund of Phoenixville, Pa. and Miss Doris Swedlund, a student at Iowa Weselyan college, Mt. Pleasant; one great-granddaughter, Linda Sue Swedlund; also two brothers, Sam and Charlie Swedlund, both of Stratford, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Swedlund was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

He was baptized in the Methodist faith and had been a member of the South Marion church for 86 years. He was active in church work as long as his health permitted.

He was a kind and thoughtful man, always interested in the welfare of his family and friends. He will not only be missed by members of his immediate family but by the many friends he had made during his long residence in the Stratford vicinity.
