Weldon Donald Sonksen, 90, of 1140 Country Club Drive in Boone and formerly of Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Friday afternoon, March 15, 2013.

He was born on May 27, 1922 at his parent's home in Stratford the first son of Julius Henry and Bertha Mae (McMichael) Sonksen.

Weldon graduated from Stratford High school in 1939.

On April 27, 1942, he married Edith Bell Silvey in Princeton, Missouri. To this marriage were born four children; Dannie Lee Sonksen, Delmar Gene Sonksen and twin daughters, Dallis Irene Sonksen and Dawn Maurine Sonksen.

Weldon farmed outside of Stratford until his retirement in the mid-1980's. In 2002, Weldon and Edith moved to Boone where they currently resided. He enjoyed farming, which was what he always wanted to do. He liked being outside and loved when the family would come visit, especially the little ones. He, with his smile, will be missed.

He was an active member of the South Marion United Methodist Church and had served in the past on the Board of Directors for the Stratford Bank, Stratford CO-OP and the Stratford Mutual Telephone Company.

His parents, 15 month old son Delmar Gene Sonksen in 1953, and a brother Paul Julius Sonksen preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Edith; son Dannie Sonksen of Stratford; daughters Dallis Sonksen and husband Michael Smith and Dawn Wentworth all of Boone; 4 grandchildren Shane Sonksen and wife Angela of Stratford, Travis Sonksen and wife Jamie of Stratford, Shiloh Burke and husband Mike of Boone and Shasta Grieser and husband Tony of Adel; 7 great-grandchildren Alexys Sonksen, Carter Sonksen, Parker Sonksen, Bailey Burke, Allyson Burke, Wyatt Grieser and Dylan Grieser; 1 step-granddaughter Tina Smith Sharp and husband Jared and 1 step-great-grandchild Jace Sharp.

Services will be held on Wednesday morning, March 20th at 10:00 a.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Gina Spohnheimer officiating.

Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford.

Friends may call at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
