Pneumonia Proves Fatal to Stratford Pioneer; Retired Farmer

STRATFORD, Iowa, Jan. 31 - Funeral services for Paul Sonksen, 82, will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the home and 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, with the Rev. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery.

Mr. Sonksen had been a resident of the Stratford community for the past 60 years. He was born in Germany but came to the United States at the age of 17 years, locating in Clinton County.

Later he moved to Hamilton County and had since lived on his farm, three miles southeast of Stratford. He had been retired from active farming for some years, however, but continued his residence on the home place.

He had been in poor health for some time, but death was caused by pneumonia.

He leaves his wife and three children, Julius, Stratford, John, at home, and Mrs. Ed Hubner, of Pipestone, Minn. A son, William, was killed in France during the World War and two sons died in infancy.

Mr. Sonksen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was one of Stratford's oldest residents and was widely known.
