Edith Bell Sonksen, age 91, of Boone and formerly of Stratford, died August 23, 2014, at the Westhaven Community.

Edith Bell Sonksen was born in Temple Hill, Kentucky, on March 21, 1923, the daughter of Marshall and Etta (Moore) Silvey.

She graduated from Stratford High School in 1941 and on April 27, 1942, Edith married Weldon Sonksen in Princeton, Missouri. The couple lived near Stratford where Weldon farmed. Edith raised chickens, had a vegetable garden and canned her produce, and also enjoyed flower gardening.

She also enjoyed quilting, singing, playing guitar, cooking, baking, especially pies and chocolate chip cookies, and she enjoyed yodeling.

In 1971, Edith graduated from DMACC in Boone with a Licensed Practical Nurse Degree. She worked as an LPN at the former Ledges Manor in Boone, the Boone County Hospital, and the Stratford Care Center.

Edith was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church, Church Circle, and taught Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Weldon in March of 2013, a son Delmar Gene Sonksen in 1953, three brothers Garnet Silvey, Jesse Silvey, and Marshall ‘Butch’ Silvey Jr., and a sister Maurine Burdick and her husband Clarence.

Edith is survived by a son Dannie Sonksen of Stratford; two daughters Dallis Sonksen and husband Michael Smith and Dawn Wentworth and friend Dave Dailey, all of Boone; a sister Bonita Newgard and husband Richard of Laurens; sisters-in-law Betty Silvey and Maxine Silvey, both of Stratford; four grandchildren, Shane Sonksen and wife Angela and Travis Sonksen and wife Jamie, all of Stratford, Shiloh Burke and husband Mike of Boone, and Shasta Grieser and husband Tony of Adel; seven great grandchildren, Alexys Sonksen, Carter Sonksen, Parker Sonksen, Bailey Burke, Allyson Burke, Wyatt Grieser, and Dylan Grieser; one step granddaughter Tina Smith Sharp and husband Jared; and a step great-grandson Jace Sharp.
