Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, September 9, 1971

STRATFORD - Marshall B. Silvey, 78, of Stratford, died at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames Wednesday. He had been a patient there the past four weeks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Stratford First Baptist church with the Rev. Harold Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the South Marion cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Hanson-Stark-Welin funeral home until noon Saturday when it will be taken to the church.

Survivors include his wife, Etta Mae; three daughters, Mrs. Eldon (Edith) Sonksen, Mrs. Clarence (Maurice) Burdick, Mrs. Gene (Bonita) Thompson; two sons, Garnet and Jesse Silvey; one sister, Mrs. Lulu Ewald; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was born April 5, 1893 at Barren county, Ky., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess [Nancy Embertson]Silvey. On Jan. 20, 1920 he was united in marriage to Etta Mae Moore.

He was preceded in death by one son, Marshall Silvey, Jr., his parents, one grandson, Delmar Sonksen, and several brothers and sisters.

He farmed near Stratford until retiring and moving into Stratford.
