Siemsen rites set for Saturday

Funeral services for August W. Siemsen, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the South Marion Methodist church near Stratford.

Rev. Robert Winter and Rev. Harold Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral Home, Webster City, until 11:30 a.m. Sunday when it will be taken to the church.

Mr. Siemsen, long-time resident of the Stratford community, died Thursday morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for the past week. He had been in ill health for the past three years.

August William Siemsen, son of Peter and Minnie [Mindemann] Siemsen, was born Sept. 13, 1894 on a farm southeast of Stratford. He was reared and educated in the Stratford area. On July 6, 1921 he was married to Vernice Oppedahl and for 17 years the couple resided on the Siemsen family farm.

In 1938 Mr. Siemsen learned the meat cutting trade and for a number of years was employed as a meat cutter in several central Iowa towns.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dean (Lois) Wahman of Webster City, four grandchildren, Mrs. Craig (Dianne) Jones of Stratford, Mrs. Bruce (Ann) Berven of Osceola, Gregg and Garry Wahman of Webster City, one sister, Mrs. Anna Tietjen of Boone, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

He was a member of the South Marion Methodist church and the Masonic Lodge in Stratford.
