MRS. ESTHER A. SHAEFFER DIED SATURDAY MORNING

Mrs. Esther A. Shaeffer, 73, died at 6:30 Saturday morning, April 30, at the Hamilton County Public Hospital at Webster City, where she had been a patient the past week. She had been in ill health the past two years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City with Rev. C.F. Pettersen officiating. Burial was made in South Marion Cemetery near Stratford.

Mrs. Shaeffer is survived by one son and one daughter; Robert E. Shaeffer of Webster City; Mrs. Alton (Harriet) Berggren of Stanhope; three grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, A.L. Peterson of Slater, Van Peterson of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. B. Warren of Chicago, and Mrs. Charles Rupp of West Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. Shaeffer has made her home in Webster City since 1937, moving there from the Stratford community. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1944.

Shaeffer Rites Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Esther A. Shaeffer, 73, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. C.F. Pettersen officiating and with burial in South Marion cemetery near Stratford.

Mrs. Shaeffer died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hamilton county hospital where she had been a patient the past week. She had been in ill health the past two years.

Esther A. Peterson, daughter of August and Sophie Peterson, was born July 26, 1881, at Sheldahl, Iowa. At an early age she moved with her parents to Slater, Iowa, and grew to young womanhood in that community. She later attended Drake University at Des Moines, and after graduation taught kindergarten in the Des Moines schools for several years.

She was united in marriage June 30, 1914, to Swan Shaeffer. They made their home in Stratford where Mr. Shaeffer was engaged in the grocery business with his brother, John Shaeffer.

In 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Shaeffer moved to Webster City where Mr. Shaeffer employed in the former Riley Grocery. Mr. Shaeffer died in 1944. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

She is survived by one son and one daughter: Robert E. Shaeffer of Webster City, and Mrs. Alton (Harriet) Berggren of Stanhope. There are three grandchildren, Kathleen and Patricia Shaeffer and Bruce Berggren; two brothers and two sisters, A.L. Peterson of Slater, Val Peterson of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. B. Warren of Chicago and Mrs. Charles Rupp of West Chicago.

Mrs. Shaeffer was a member of the Methodist church and was active in church work at Stratford. She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother. Her church, family and home were her main interests in life.
