Clifford C. Runyan, 77, of 925 Dryden St. in Stratford died from congestive heart failure May 5, 1996, at Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral Services are 10:30 Thursday at South Marion United Methodist Church, south of Stratford, with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial, with military services by American Legion Frederick Sonksen Post 56, will be at South Marion Cemetery.
Mr. Runyan was born April 19, 1919 in Fraser, the son of Arthur and Mary Alice (Buttolph) Runyan.
On Oct. 12, 1940, he married Lucille Carlstedt at her parent's home in Stratford.
For a short time, he worked in the coal mines in the Boone area. Then he was a farm laborer in the Stratford area. From 1957 to 1977, the couple lived in Newell. They then returned to Stratford.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the engineer corp in the European Theater.
Five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Betty Runyan of Fort Dodge, Nancy Runyan of Stratford, Colleen and Richard Milburn of DeSoto, Linda and Stan DeVore of Chariton and Rose and Mike Dopita of Fort Dodge; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Gene Runyan of Stratford, Ed and Davene Runyan of Boone, Larry and Kim Runyan of Stratford and Ron Runyan of Fargo N.D. Survivors also include 14 grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Runyan of Superior, Wis.; three sisters, Mabel Hagland of Boone, Lucille Herfi of Paradise, Calif., and Irene Navarro of Boise, Idaho; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Stark-Welin Funeral Directors and Thursday 9 a.m. to services time at the church.
