Stratford Courier
January 15, 1920

Charlie Augustus Ristrim was born in Trottegongby, Christianstadelan, Sweden, September 22, 1848, and died January 5, 1920, at Cedarlane farm, midway between Stratford and Stanhope, on his wedding anniversary at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 13 days.

He came to America with his parents in 1853 landing at Boston on Christmas Day. He lived two years at St. Louis after which he moved to Peosta, Dubuque County, Iowa. He came to Hamilton County in 1865 buying the farm upon which he lived at the time of his death. He was united in marriage of Hulda Johnson on January 5, 1874 at Webster City, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, three sons, Frank of Stanhope, Fred of Des Moines and Cliff who resides at home. Three grandchildren, Clinton, Melvin and Gayle, three sisters, Mrs. John Chapman, Mrs. C.G. Peterson and Mrs. J.P. Johnson; two brothers, Alfred and Frank, also survive, besides a host of substantial neighbors and friends.

He was always active in public affairs and took a great deal of interest in the activities and development of the community. For more than fifty years he had lived in the same neighborhood and on the same farm. He had seen this community develop into one of the best and he lived to do his part of it. Always a kind man, he was generous to a fault and his home was the very seat of hospitality.

Deceased had been ailing for some months but two weeks ago became so much worse that no hope was held out for his recovery. He passed away almost before the community knew that he was seriously ill, but he will not soon be forgotten.

Services were held at the home on Thursday, January 8, conducted by Rev. G.H. Dick of Stanhope and interment was made at the South Marion Cemetery. Pall bearers were August Carlson, Nels Peterson, C.J. Carlstedt, Oliver Sealine, Andrew Lindquist and John Gustafson.
