Funeral services for Selma Amelia Quick were held in the Hanson Funeral Home in Stratford at 2:30 p.m., Oct. 18, with the Rev. Robert H. Ruppert of the Calvary Methodist Church officiating. Two musical selections were sung by Philip Berglund, accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Bell.

Pallbearers were F.C. Rose, John Knuth, Olof Berglund, Moyer Quick, Kenneth Wiley and Ralph Miller. Burial was in the South Marion Cemetery.

Selma Amelia Quick, daughter of John Otto and Anna Louise [Peterson] Quick, was born on a farm south of Stratford in Hamilton County on July 5, 1872, and passed away at the Boone County Hospital, Boone, Ia., at 2:20 p.m. Oct. 15, 1957 (following several months in hospitals and several years in failing health) at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 10 days.

She received her formal education at the one room school in the South Marion community at the time known as the Peterson School. She was baptized as a child and was for many years a member of the South Marion Methodist Church. In 1953 she united with the Calvary Methodist Church in Stratford.

She lived several years in Colorado, and returned to Stratford to care for her aging parents and her nephew, to whom she gave the loving devotion of a mother. In 1925 she moved to Des Moines, where she worked until 1943, in which year she returned to Stratford. She established her residence with her brother, Charles, and cared for him in his failing health until 1953, when her own poor health caused her to take residence in the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Her last years were spent in that home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Matilda) Rose and Mrs. Henry (Lorena) Knuth, and by two brothers, John and Charles Quick.

She leaves to mourn her passing one brother, O.T. Quick of Boone, Ia., a nephew, Stanley Quick of Stratford (whom she raised and cared for as a mother when his own mother, Mrs. C.O. Quick died when he was an infant), his three sons, Stanley, Jr., Larry and Harlan (who were like her grandsons), several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and her many friends.

Hers was a life of service and helpfulness to her loved ones and family when they needed her. Her memory is blessed unto them and to her friends.
