Quick, John Alfred (1869-1954)

John Alfred Quick, eldest son of Otto and Anna Louisa [Peterson] Quick, was born near Stratford in Hardin Township, Webster County, February 21, 1869, and passed away April 13, 1954, in the Hamilton County Hospital at Webster City at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 23 days.

On December 30, 1895 he was united in marriage to Sophia Johnson at Boone, Iowa. One daughter, Myrtle, was born to this union. He was baptized in the Methodist faith by the Rev. John Berggren. He was a well known and familiar figure in the community, having lived here most of his life. He was a painter by trade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Matilda) Rose and Mrs. Henry (Lorena) Knuth, and one brother, Charles. Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife, Sophia, and his daughter, Myrtle, a sister, Selma, of Boone, and a brother, Otto, of Boone and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held in the Jackson Funeral Home at 2 o'clock p.m., Thursday, April 15, with the Rev. Otto Steele officiating. Two vocal selections: "Rock of Ages," and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Mrs. Otto Steele. Burial was in the South Marion Cemetery.

The pallbearers were: Stanley Quick, Franklin Rose, Harold Bergman, Olof Berglund, Moyer Quick and L.W. Johnson.
