J. PERRY POMEROY

Funeral services for J. Perry Pomeroy, 81, of Stratford, formerly of Dedham, were conducted by the Rev. Robert Ruppert in Calvary Methodist Church, Stratford, May 5, at 2 p.m., following a brief service in the home. Mr. and Mrs. Norman D. Erickson sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Have Thine Own Way Lord," and Mr. Erickson sang, "Does Jesus Care," accompanied by Mrs. Cleo Bell.

Pallbearers were John Werner, Carroll; Wallace Young and William Hartshorn, Des Moines; and Tom Hakes, Bill Conklin and Thure Anderson, Stratford. Burial was in South Marion cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by Acorn Lodge No. 601, A.F. and A.M. of Stratford.

Mr. Pomeroy, son of Marshall and Margaret [Goodwin] Pomeroy, was born May 9, 1874, at Morgantown, W. Va. He died May 2 in Mary Greeley Hospital, Ames, where he had been a patient a few days.

At an early age, he moved from West Virginia with his parents to Carroll County, where he was reared and educated. He joined the Methodist church at Dedham.

He was married to Bessie F. Harvey Sept. 10, 1896. One son and two daughters were born to them.

The couple farmed in the vicinity of Dedham until 1906 when Mr. Pomeroy engaged in livestock buying, which he followed for 50 years. In 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Pomeroy moved to Boone, where they resided for one year, and the following year to Stratford, where Mr. Pomeroy spent the remainder of his life. Mr. and Mrs. Pomeroy celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1946.

Mr. Pomeroy is survived by his wife; one son, Dr. M.E. Pomeroy, Stratford; two daughters, Mrs. A.A. (Ila) King, Boone; and Ione Pomeroy, Fort Dodge; three grandchildren, Mrs. J.D. Hook and Mrs. Weldon Swedlund, Stratford; and Marshall King, Boone; eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Reece Lewis, Lake Crystal, Minn.; and Mrs. L.E. Williams, Glidden.

His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Pomeroy was a member of the Modern woodman and Masonic Lodges, having received his 50-year Masonic pin about a year ago.
