POMEROY

STRATFORD - Dr. M.E. Pomeroy, 88, formerly of Stratford, died Oct. 3, 1985, in his West Des Moines home. Pomeroy was born June 8, 1897 in Dedham to J. Perry Pomeroy and Bessie Harvey. He married Ida Hall in Boone Oct. 2, 1920.

Pomeroy was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and the Acorn Chapter of the Masonic Lodge in Stratford and the Des Moines Consistory and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.

He graduated from the Iowa State University veterinary school and began his practice in Stratford in 1919. He ended his private practice in 1958 when he was appointed district veterinarian. He served in that position until 1961 when he became chief of animal health for the state. He left that post in 1969 and resumed his role as district veterinarian until he retired.

Pomeroy was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Ida of West Des Moines; a daughter, Eileen Hook of Des Moines; a sister, Ila King of Boone; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with the Revs. William Miller and Richard Russell officiating. Burial is in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford. Memorials may be given to the church.

Friends may call at the Hanson-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m.
