Loren R. Patterson, 80, of Stratford died of complications of surgery Saturday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, of which he was a member. Burial, with military rites, will be at South Marion Cemetery there.

Mr. Patterson had lived in the Stratford area all his life. He was a retired farmer, an Army veteran of World War II, a former 4-H leader and a member of American Legion Post 576 and had served on the Stratford Grain and Supply Elevator Board of Directors.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn [Anderson]; three sons, Harlan of Norwalk, Wayne of Ellsworth and Rodney of Stanhope; a daughter, Barb Weldy of Elkhart, Ind.; two sisters, Eleanor Engstrom and Irene Johnson, both of Stratford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday at the funeral home and from 12:30 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
