Fred Patterson, 70
(Stratford)

Fred Patterson, 70, died suddenly at the Story City hospital, Tuesday, Oct. 17, of a heart condition. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the South Marion Methodist Church, southeast of Stratford.

The Rev. George Brighton will officiate at the services and burial will be at the South Marion Cemetery. Hanson Funeral Home at Stratford is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Esther, and three sons, Ivan of Callender, Wendell of Story City and Burton, of Stratford. Also, two sisters; Mrs. Lawrence (Elsie) Larson of Jefferson and Mrs. Kenneth (Fern) Carlson of Stratford; a brother, J. Clarence Patterson of New York City, N.Y., and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Mr. Patterson was educated at the Stratford Community schools. He was an active member of the South Marion Methodist church, the Stratford Lions and other community activities. A long-time Boone County resident, he was active in many Boone County organizations. He retired from farming to Stratford four years ago.

Patterson Rites in Stratford October 20th

Fred Albert Patterson, son of Albert and Sophie Bjustrom Patterson, was born June 17, 1897 in Boone County and died Oct. 17, 1967 at the Story City Hospital.

Fred was born, raised and reared his family on the farm homesteaded by his grandfather, which has been in the family since 1865. He was married to Esther Monson at Grove City, Minn., on June 8, 1927.

He is survived by his wife Esther; three sons, Ivan of Callender, Wendell of Story City and Burton of Stratford; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Larson of Jefferson, and Mrs. Kenneth (Fern) Carlson of Stratford; and one brother, J. Clarence Patterson of New York City. He was preceded in death by his sister Minnie and a brother, Budd Patterson of Stratford. There are also eleven grandchildren.

Fred's leadership in the community included the Boone County Extension Council, Stratford Lions, the Farm Business Association, the Boone County Farm Bureau, 4-H, the South Marion Electric Co., the Elevator and Telephone Boards.

In June of 1967 the couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with all their children and grandchildren present.

At the time of his death, he and Mrs. Patterson were Co-Chairmen of the Membership and Evangelism Commission of the South Marion Methodist Church.

The Pattersons moved to Stratford in July of 1963, where they have sine made their home.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 20, 1967, at 2 p.m. at the South Marion Church near Stratford with the Rev. George Brighton officiating. He also spoke words of comfort at the preceding prayer service at the Patterson home.

Eldean Erickson of Austin, Minn., accompanied by Mrs. Norman Erickson of Stratford, organist, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer." Mr. and Mrs. Vincel Crim and Mr. and Mrs. James Monson served as the flower committee.

Pallbearers were Marvin Larson of Carroll, Eldon Larson of Jefferson, Duane Larson of Jamaica, and Lester Johnson, Loren Patterson and Lynn Engstrom of Stratford. Burial was in the South Marion Cemetery near Stratford.
