October 6, 1927

A.P. Olson, highly respected resident of Stratford, passed away at his home here, Sunday, October 2, 1927, at the age of 72 years, 11 months, 16 days. The immediate cause of his death was uremia from which he had been a sufferer for some time but about a week before his death had a serious attack from which he could not recover.

Andrew Peter Olson was born October 15, 1854, in Ve Kristianstads land, Sweden. He came to America in the year 1880 and for a year made his home in Princeton, Ills., where he was employed. Then he decided to go to Iowa and after working first at Vinton and then in Boone for another year he moved to Stratford and shortly after coming here he purchased the farm a little more than a mile south of Stratford which he owned at the time of his death. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Ida [Samuelson] Olson and up until a few years ago they, with their three children, lived on the old home farm. Retiring from active farm work, Mr. and Mrs. Olson purchased a residence property here and have since lived in town.

Mr. Olson was a thorough man in all that he did. As a tiller of the soil he was successful because he put all of his best efforts and the best years of his life into his work, accumulating a share of this world's goods by honest and diligent and painstaking effort. And at the same time he did his work with a smile and was always willing to bear his share of the reverses of life with a real fortitude and courage. And when he retired from active work he had earned that rest which, after all, was of few years duration.

He leaves to mourn his death his bereaved wife, two sons, Fred and Albert Olson, and a daughter, Miss Emma Olson, all living in this community, besides a large number of friends and acquaintances.

The funeral service was held at the family home here yesterday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Gunnar Goransson, pastor of the Lutheran church. A mixed quartet sang three hymns. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery where a short service was conducted by Rev. Goransson.
