Helen Nelson, 83, of 720 South Division Street, Boone, Iowa, passed away at Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa on Monday afternoon, January 15, 2007 from complications of pneumonia.

She was born on April 4, 1923 in Stratford, Iowa, the daughter of Albin and Anna (Swanson) Anderson. On March 1, 1952, she married Robert D. Nelson. Helen was active in the VFW Auxiliary and the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, socializing, and traveling to visit friends and relatives out of town.

Her parents, 1 son, Gary Nelson in May of 1973, 1 brother, Arvid Anderson of Stratford, IA, 2 sisters, Alice Geyman of Boone, IA, and Evelyn Kail of California preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Nelson of Boone, IA, 1 son, Brian of West Alis, WI, 2 daughters, Linda of Watertown, MA, and Lori of Boone, IA, 3 grandchildren, and 1 brother, Paul Anderson of Vinton, IA.

Services will be held on Friday afternoon, January 19th at 1:00 P.M. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Pastor Jim Mead officiating. Interment will be in South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford, Iowa. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Friday from 8:00 A.M. until the time of service. The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
