Hannah Nelson

Miss Hannah Nelson, 87, Stratford, and a resident of the Evangelical Free Church home for 15 months, died Sept. 19 at the Boone County Hospital. She was born April 5, 1893 in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Nels and Sophia [Johansson] Nelson.

She had been employed by the Stratford Farmer's Savings Bank and also served as postmaster in Stratford until her retirement in 1963. She served for many years on the Stratford Library board. In 1970 she wrote a history of the Stratford Community 1840-1960. For her contributions to the preservation and recording of Stratford's history she was named an honorary member of the Stratford Historical Society in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Survivors include cousins and numerous friends.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 22 in the Stratford Lutheran Church. The Rev. Calvin Rossman was officiating.

Burial was in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford.
