Funeral services for Kenneth L. Johnson, 88, Stratford Care Center, are Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church, Stratford, with Rev. Remigio P. Panlaqui and Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Visitation is set for Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, Stratford. Visitation continues Wednesday at South Marion United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until time of the service.

Mr. Johnson died Saturday, Nov. 19 at Boone County Hospital.

Casket bearers are Randy and Rick Johnson, Dan Nelson, Nolan and Burton Patterson, and Loren Lindemann. Honorary casket bearers are Bill Mally, Dennis Adams, Ron Forest, Dennis Carlson, Karl Hunter and Matt Shroyer.

Dixie Johnson, organist, will accompany Rev. Panlaqui in singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Kenneth Johnson was born Jan. 28, 1917 in Sutton Neb., the son of Roy and Dora [Hanson] Johnson. At the age of 11, his mother died. His father later married Sophia Holmes. He married Irma Lindeman Jan. 21, 1940 in Boone County.

Kenneth enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and woodworking. In his younger years he loved breaking horses, especially Bud and Buster, whom he broke to do farming.

Kenneth moved to Boone and worked on a farm. He later moved to Ogden and continued farming. In 1957 Kenneth moved to Stratford where he stayed until his retirement in 1979. Following retirement he returned to Boone and sold seed corn for a number of years.

Survivors include one son, Larry and his wife Jan of Stratford; one daughter, Karen and her husband Ed Nelson of Stratford; three grandchildren, Randy Johnson, Rick Johnson and Amber Andersen; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irma, in 2000; a son Eugene in 1999; a great-grandson, Mark Raymond Johnson; three brothers; and three sisters.

Interment is at South Marion Cemetery (located one mile east of the church).

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Boone, is in charge of arrangements.
