Charley Johnson, 79, longtime Stanhope resident, died at 5 o'clock Saturday morning at the Vaubel Nursing home in Jewell. He had been a patient there the past month. He had been in ill health the past year.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist church in Stanhope, with the Rev. Reed Richards officiating and with burial in the South Marion cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Charley Johnson, son of John and Hannah Johnson, was born Nov. 3, 1877 on a farm in the East Marion community near Stanhope. He received his education in the Stanhope schools and had lived his entire life in the Stanhope community. For the past 10 years he had made his home with his brother, Fred, southwest of Stanhope.

Mr. Johnson is survived by one brother and one sister, Fred Johnson and Miss Matilda Johnson, Webster City; one nephew, Arthur Gustafson, Stanhope, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters, who died in infancy; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Gustafson and Miss Ella Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was baptized in the Christian faith.
