Former Stratford man killed in train-truck accident Monday

Albert Johnson, about 70, was killed about noon Monday, February 4, when the pickup truck he was driving was hit by a 75 car Illinois Central Freight train 1 1/2 miles west of Williams. Johnson was driving a 1960 pickup owned by his son, Howard and was only about 200 yards from his home.

Johnson is survived by his wife Carrie, a patient in the Nursing Home in Stratford, a son Howard, and a niece, Mrs. Loren Hinds of Stratford. The family formerly lived on a farm near Stratford.

Obituary of Albert Johnson

Albert Johnson, son of Thilda and Alfred Johnson, was born July 9, 1893 at Pjatteryd, Sweden and passed away in an accident near his farm home at Williams, Iowa February 4, 1963. He attended school in Sweden and at an early age was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

He came to America in the early spring of 1913, going first to Omaha, Nebraska where he lived for a very brief time and then came to Stratford, Iowa. Here he worked on farms for a time and after his marriage he moved to a farm of his own.

He was united in marriage to Carrie Helen Hanson at Boone, Iowa Nov. 28, 1928. Three children came to bless their home. Pearl Alice, Howard Dean and Robert Leon. Pearl and Robert preceded their father in death. The family came to Williams, Iowa on March 1, 1940 and he has since made his home in this community. He united with the Williams Methodist Church June 2, 1940 and remained a faithful member until his death. He was also a member of the Alamo Lodge No. 547 of Williams, the Des Moines Consistory and Shrine, also the American Legion of Williams.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Carrie and one son, Howard, five grandchildren, Donald, David, Dianne, Douglas and Drew. Also four sisters and one brother in Sweden, and one sister in America. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John. He leaves also many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Johnson often visited in the home of his niece, Mrs. Loren Hinds of Stratford and was very well known in the Stratford Community.
